Jazz-Rock Fusion, Westport Arts Center, Pequot Library, Southport, Ct.

The Westport Arts Center in conjunction with Brian Torff, Jazz Artistic Director are presenting a wonderful series of informative Jazz events that I felt compelled to share with you. If you have a strong interest in Jazz history, its music and related discussion, Westport Arts Center is THE place to learn more about Jazz in Southern Connecticut.

First is the brilliant exhibit of Milt Hinton photographs which has been extended until February 28th, the pictures are so inspiring.  The Judge: Jazz Photographs by Musician Milt Hinton.

I just can’t get enough of this photograph 🙂

Next is the film screening on Sunday January 11th of Keeping Time, which is the companion film to Milt Hinton’s exhibition.

The third event on May 2, 2010 features Brian Torff and a seven piece band, the Westport Horns, which will debut as a repertory jazz ensemble for the Westport Arts Center. Musical selections will include mixtures of jazz with funk, blues, zydeco, reggae and other world music styles. During the concert musicians will talk about the influence of Blood, Sweat, and Tears, Chicago, Tower of Power and other important bands of the late 1960’s and early 70’s. This event will be held at the Southport, CT Pequot Library.

The Westport Arts Center is also planning two more jazz events that are supposed to be equally if not more special. I can’t wait to learn what and when they are!

We’re also adding two additional jazz programs so stay tuned for a winter devoted to jazz history, art, and music.
