Santana – Las Vegas – Fri. September 3, 2010

Supernatural (Santana album)

Image via Wikipedia

Santana Supernatural at The Joint in Las Vegas. This will be our third time seeing Santana in Vegas. We saw the Santana Supernatural show in September, 2009 and again in May 2010 each concert having its own unique set list.

We like the Aztec custom stage setting that The Joint has specially created for the Santana Supernatural concert experience. From the Santana lion with the laser eyes at the top of the stage down past the magic mirror on the back center wall that displays the larger than life video feed out to the audience of what’s happening on stage. The theatrics are greatly enhanced with the added visual dimension to the sound and texture of Santana live.

Don’t be misled that this is just a typical Las Vegas show. This is Santana live and the band works hard to produce the explosive Santana sound we all love to dance the night away to. ;)

We are looking forward to seeing our friend and Santana trumpet player  Bill Ortiz very soon now. :)

Pat Metheny – Orchestrion – Sat. October 23, 2010

Secured Pat Metheny Orchestrion Tour tickets at the Warner Theatre in Torrington, CT for Saturday October 23rd, 2010. We’ll be seated in the Orchestra Pit 3rd row right of center, facing the stage.  Orchestrion from the Orchestra Pit, karma, Neh :)

This is a big coup for us as we are major fans of Pat Metheny’s unique sound and interpretations. Earlier this year I did a graduate school project that centered around music and education. I constructed a Web site, http://learningedje.net/ that highlights jazz, education and instructional design as an integrated metaphor.

I feature on this Web site a Windows Media Player edition of a PowerPoint 2010 presentation focused on Instructional Design Methodology. I took the liberty to combine Pat Metheny’s Orchestrion polyphonic compositions with the intricacies of constructing an instructional design, accepting the synergies existent between the two universes of entertainment and information.

You can download that Instructional Design Methodology as a 32MB PowerPoint Windows Media file located as a link on this page: http://learningedje.net/strategy.htm I hope you will watch this presentation and write your opinion of what you experienced as a follow-up comment to this blog post.

An Evening With Joan Baez – Fri. November 5th

Joan Baez's 1975 bestseller Diamonds & Rust.

For the longest time we have wanted to see Joan Baez in concert. She has performed in Connecticut in the past, we just never lined up an evening with her :) . Much to our delight this morning I received an e-mail from The Shubert Theater that a new show has been added. I cracked open that e-mail and what a wonderful surprise to see Joan Baez is performing there on Friday November 5th. Rosemary called the box office and we are now ticketed for center orchestra, Row N.

Can’t wait to see Joan Baez and hear her lilting, angelic voice.

Here’s to the dawn of her days

Soul Asylum – Sat. August 21, 2010

What I like about this particular summer concert is that it is literally right down the street from my house ;) . The 36th Annual  Milford Oyster Festival is a free one day event that offers arts and crafts on the town green, lots of food and drink plus live entertainment.

Soul Asylum is the Main Stage Entertainment event at 3:30 p.m. I look forward to checking them  out on Fowler Field. I hope we have good weather that day.

This will be a special evening as we attend the club concert date of Michael Shrieve’s Spellbinder in Seattle, Washington on Monday, August 30th.

They are the house band on Monday nights at  the ToST Lounge, in the Freemont neighborhood in Seattle.

As a longtime Santana fan I have always wanted to see Michael Shrieve perform live. We will get that opportunity in a few weeks time, psyche

Charles Lloyd Quartet – Wesleyan University Fri. 1/28/2011

Soundtrack (Charles Lloyd album)

I was recently browsing Charles Lloyd‘s Web site. He will soon have a new recording as the Charles Lloyd Quartet with Jason Moran, Reuben Rogers and Eric Harland. It is entitled Mirror and it will be released on ECM Records on September 14th in North America.  I glanced at the Concerts section, and noticed that he is appearing at Wesleyan University on Friday January 28th, 2011. The ticket prices were just too good to pass up @ $23 a person!

When I attended high school Emmet Simmons and I tried to convince the student council to book Charles Lloyd to play a concert for us. We were overruled, they booked Gary Puckett and the Union Gap and Johnny Maestro and the Brooklyn Bridge much to our dismay… Now the chance to see Charles Lloyd all these years later seems like a righteous evening to come to pass :)

Peter Noone and Herman’s Hermit’s Fri. 8/6/10

We went on an impromptu concert excursion to Mohegan Sun Casino in Uncasville, CT last night to see Peter Noone and Herman’s Hermits at the Wolf Den. It was a delightful concert. Nostalgic.

Peter Noone is a total charmer. Love his smile. They played for an hour, here is the set list.
