It was only yesterday we were spinning 45 r.p.m. records on the hi-fi system listening to The Association performing such hits as, “Along Comes Mary”, “Cherish”, “Windy” , and “Never My Love”. The temptation to see The Association with Rosemary in our “backyard” created a nostalgia I couldn’t resist.
Thanks to Infinity Hall in Norfolk we get the opportunity to attend their concert on Sunday July 25th, 2010. I hope you’ll come out to see The Association that night. “Cherish is the word…”
I won this really cool contest via Facebook and Jazz at Lincoln Center, two tickets to the Fats Waller Festival and a copy of Pablo Aslan’s new CD Tango Grill! Rosemary and I love this New York City venue. The Rose Theater is an acoustically, beautiful architectural wonder.
Hall of Fame The Music of Fats Waller
Fri-Sat, Apr 16-17
8:00pm
Rose Theater
Get set for the riotous music of the funniest figure (and what a figure!) in all of American music, Fats Waller himself. Broadway entertainer, singer, and dancer Ben Vereen will serve as host for the event as well as perform. The spirit of the talented pianist and composer lives on through a talented cast of singers, pianists and other musicians, under the musical direction of Andy Farber, who will re-animate favorites like “Ain’t Misbehavin’,” “Alligator Crawl,” and “Honeysuckle Rose.” The rhythm section includes pianist Ehud Asherie, bassist Ben Wolfe, guitarist Doug Wamble, and drummer Alvester Garnett. Along with Andy Farber on saxophone, performers include clarinetist and saxophonist Dan Block, vocalist Carla Cook and Allan Harris, and trumpeter Jon-Erik Kellso.
Pre-Concert Discussion, Nightly, 7:00pm
Music Director Andy Farber joins Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Ken Druker in an intimate discussion on the Fats Waller story and songbook, featuring insight into the evening’s musical selections.
